"Pick a line..." |
| "If you could do anything you wanted for life and "for a living", what would it be? Make a list of ten things you love on one sheet of paper. Then make a list of ten things you hate on another. You can have more listed, as your mind starts to flow. Then look at your lists. What jobs and activities involve what you love? Creativity is key. As an example, if you love the outdoors you can: "forestry manage it; tour guide it; study it; rent equipment for it; supply local needs for it; feed the people that visit it; host or supply room and board for it; sell clothes and equipment for it; invest in it's real estate; sell it's real estate for others; grow plants from it; timber "farm" improve it; hunt it; fish it; climb it; paddle it of course; protect it; bird watch it; live in it; harvest deer antlers or sheds from it; find mushrooms in it... How much fun can a person have outdoors? As much as they think they had..." | |
| Weird thing... I quietly sat in the warehouse in the dark one day, reflecting on my day, all boats wrapped and ready to go out. I was thinking of all the fun, each boat having on it's trips, all over the country, serving kids and adults alike. I was trying to imagine all boats busy at one weekend, how much energy and noise would fill that warehouse. The fun I would be witnessing, on just one moment of a day. I know where these boats are going when they are sold. Guess that is why we really do this. | |

Kids do say the funniest things! I have a grandson with a host of them. 3 + age: "Papa, I dreamed of "Tor-mados and Funder"; "Mom is my "best buddy" papa. So is dad, sister, and little brother, and some of my toys"; I was with my, "growing up friends" (Imaginary adult friends) papa; When I shaved my beard that I had only a few months, (to a three year old, a lifetime), he exclaimed with a huge surprised look, "Papa, your ugly!"

| "Everything is a matter of prospective. The point of view in which you are seeing it from. Attitudes and opinions of other people are sometimes better understood, when you realize your prospective, and recognize theirs. In most cases it doesn't matter if you agree and is not necessary to think the same. This is privilege of being individuals. Being "in touch" though, and letting them have their opinion, seeing it from their point of view, too... makes for old fashioned "good company". I still like my own kayak, the privilege of being an individual..." | |
| Ever been accused of “acting like a kid”? What does that really mean? Acting immature is the most common meaning. Imagine if you could remember the feelings that you had as a kid. The fun you had with no worries, no schedule, and could actually be able to feel, and “act like a kid”! Now that doesn’t sound so bad… Does it? | |

"This is my picture Sis! Papa is taking a picture of me! Stay Back!" |
| "Can you come out and play?" Where did that phrase come from? Children through timeless energy knocking on their neighbor's door, wanting to become active. This is when children invite a friend to be with them, to explore nature, to have fun, to be in the outdoors spending physically and mentally healthy energy. These are the best, simplest and most sincere moments in our lives, when we are motivated by activity and pleasure alone... "Can you come out and play?" Are you one that has forgotten how? | |

Remember when you discovered dirt? Now this is complex, interesting, dirty, grass, hmmm. Wonder what this tastes like? |
| The great natural outdoors is sobering, to the soul and "mental position". A breeze, the noise of a waterfall, a sunset, or sunrise. Slow down if you can, taking a few slow deep breaths. Forget all else in life while absorbing these moments. Here, there are no distractions of noise and confusion. Quit noticing if you can the "seconds" of haste, that you count to get something done every moment of the day. Slow down if you can, to the speed of the breeze, waterfall, sunset, or sunrise. Everything in your mind becomes clear. "It can be a magnitude of clarity that you did not expect." | |
| Sometimes the best plans are no plans at all, even in something you love like a camping and hiking trip. Imagine this. A couple has the best laid plans, from morning till night. We are going this far, we are preparing this much, to see it all. Here by nine, there by eleven, fed by one, and covered this much by four. Rushed, they get it all done, a bit late but done. They experienced the outdoors as they wanted, and never slowed down. A second couple arrives to pitch their tent. They eat because they're hungry, walk because something intrigued them, and hiked a trail because they felt good that next morning and it sounded fun. They felt every moment of the outdoors, and never rushed... | |
| Want to get the most of the outdoors? Keep your hiking or paddling trip short. Experience it, rather than touring it like a bus ride. A day in a "good area" is better than passing through it.. | |
"To feel like you are the center of things, try recognizing your surroundings, and respect it. Be generous to your surroundings, loving, kindness, and your world will surround you. If you try to be the center based on ego or control, the center of your world will move..."
"Memories are timeless, for those to remember for years, that day that grandpa kayaked, and mom surfed the wave with me. Dads tricks at the campfire, I shall surely never master, but his eyes flickering in the campfire light, a photo in my mind. Time is never forever, and wealth doesn't have to do with money, rather love within the family, those memories, the only thing to keep..."
"When you have everything figured out, something changes. Change is a way of life. Accept it and look for the benefits. Change will keep coming. Happiness comes from acceptance... Just like the wildlife, we all have to be chameleons to survive..."
"Know what the difference is, between being a kid and a grandpa? You don't have to "have the big piece" anymore." "You realize that watching the other person you are sharing with is "enjoying getting the big piece" so much, it is more fun to watch..." |
Stress is not the situation, it is how you look at it. It's either that tough, noisy spot on the river... or a "really cool rapid"!
"When grandpa brings the kids to the demo days events, it's grandpa that can't sleep, thinking about kayaking..."
"Sometimes less is better. Ever think that way? Out in nature's glory, a kayaker's way, to get away..."
"The next time you think kids are annoying, stop, correct yourself and listen to them. Get involved with them for only a few minutes, no matter who they are. You will be rewarded with a new friend that thinks a lot of you, for many years to come..."
