"Where the wildlife and daily life meet"

"Life Thoughts 'o5, Points to Ponder..."

Why do our paddling friends that are doctors and practitioners of law, those that were good students and went to school for such a long time, graduate to "practice" the rest of their lives?  I guess it's like the fact, that the rest of us are just "glad to be on the other end of the paddle" for a change...

Escape to your destination with imagination...

"Want to escape?  Go out in the wild and look for things.  You can loose yourself, in the moment, in the hunt, and live in a fantasy for a while.  You can treasure hunt the beaches, maybe after a rainstorm with metal detectors, hunt for primitive tools and arrowheads in the rivers and streams around the country, mushroom hunt in the spring time of year for morels, shed hunt for the dropped antlers of deer in December and January, hunt for gems in the Blue Ridge Mountains, pan for gold in the gold hills of the east as well as the west, maybe diamond hunt in Arkansas.  This is just the beginning of a list of things one can find in this continent.  Many things do have a value that I mentioned, if money is your motive.  The hunt and the escape is the real reward, to get out, to do, to have fun, to live the fantasy of your hunt, the history, the challenge...  How do you escape?"

"No fuel required?

Worrying about the high prices of fuel?  Get out and paddle while you contemplate it, anywhere there's water..."

Pretend you're a deer...

This is what it looks like when your just hanging out with your buds.  He's saying, ya' coming?
This is your view when it's time to head out...

What a year in 2005!  We do worry, but must keep paddling...

"It used to be that being out here in the sticks in the Ozarks was bad.  The ticks, the chiggers, snake bites.  We do worry.  One couldn't have a long life span "out there", could they?  Now if you live on the east or gulf coast, the wrath of global warming has you threatened with hurricanes, rising waters, or is it just cycles, but how many?  Who is right?  We do worry.  Couldn't have a long life span down there, could they?  Best to be in the cities!  But now it is diseases that threaten in the masses, the terrorists, the destruction, which one is a target?  Who is right?  We do worry.  Couldn't have a long life span in there, could they?  Ah, let's head to the hills of the west.  The mountains, the fresh air, but the fires!  The earthquakes, the volcanoes!  Who is right?  We do worry.  Couldn't have a long life span way out there, could they?  Being proud of our country, defending our decisions like they were our own, the USA the great, never do wrong, a country of faith, but the wars, the fighting.  Who is right?  We do worry.  Couldn't have a long life span fighting, could we?  We have worried for generations.  The stuff we have heard, it could or it will, could happen again, back then it did, inevitable is the word.  Who is right?  We do worry.  Couldn't have a long life span as the many ended up having, could we?  News is abundant, more than ever.  We just now know, more than ever.

We'll take a deep breath, take it all in, help when we can, yet life is still now.  There is one thing for certain, we each have a destiny.  In the constantly flowing river of life the current never stops.  There are big rapids.  When we get through each rapid  it is always a different viewpoint.  It might beat us up a little, effect us a lot.  We do remember the big ones.  They become a part of us.  Just let the river take us there.  Keep paddling.  We are all in the river of life together.  Have faith that our destiny will be waiting, whatever it is."

Some things you do, little kids always remember.  Then when they go home and see that kayak on the TV commercial, it's always, "Look, a kayak"!  When they think of paddling, they now think, I have done that on the river!  That is, if they have a clue yet...

I guess in any sport, they have special words.  Paddling is no different.  Some words are variations on others, and some words are the combination of the two.  For example, I tumped over at that last rapid.  Yep, spell check nails it as I write it, as it is a variation of the two words, turned over, and dumped over.  It is a word though.  Everyone that paddles knows what it means.  Another example is tippy.  I use that word all the time so I "taught" my spell check so it doesn't show up anymore.  It is not in the all wise computer dictionary though.  Tipsy is something different in my book.  Two different things.  I do not get tipsy when I paddle.  But the boat, now it can be tippy.  See what I mean?  We need to let Webster know..

From what I can see so far, this decade will go down in history as the "Decade of Stress". During the 60's and early 70's we had war, riots, but society reflected with songs of love and peace through it's music and situation comedy on television.  In this decade after the turn of the century we have also had war along with disasters, but society reflects with television and music of stress and tension.  Television's ratings promote home remodeling shows that have the stress of deadlines and budgets, competition of jobs with a theme of getting "Fired", Survivor type shows of several themes with stressful eliminations including lying and backstabbing as well as fighting the elements and distances to be covered.  Even today's new rock and roll music has aggressiveness.  Thank all goodness we have the ability to shut off the TV and go out in nature, where times seems to slow down to a standstill.  It is here we absorb everything without haste in thought, and clear our heads for another dose...
