Tie down tips! - Twist straps that are tight and hang out in the air. They will hum like a reed instrument if no twists are present to help spin the air pressure off the strap. Check your load in the first 10 minutes, then two hours, then every tank full. More if the results are not desirable, as your confidence will be achieved as you head down the road on a long trip. A secure load tip? Sure, when you are done, shake the boat. Does it shake the vehicle too or is it sliding around on the vehicle? If it is, keep tightening things down until you can shake your vehicle with the boat you have just put on it! (Portage note: straps stretch somewhat when they get wet. Tighten when they get wet, then when they dry they will be tighter! Raft guides pull rigging straps like these out of water buckets and start with them being wet!
