Water temp varies from the lower 40’s in the upper James river to around 54 degrees around Kimberling. Lake level is falling and presently 914.04.
I can’t remember a time when I’ve seen the white bass fishing last so long. At this rate it could still be going on around Christmas. The whites are still concentrated on flats and long tapering points from Kimberling to around the Aunts creek area in 50 to 65 ft. They will be shallower on cloudy days and deeper on bright sunny days. The pattern is holding about the same.  A half or three quarter ounce “Hazie Dazie” jigging spoon can load the boat as demonstrated in the above photo. These two world class anglers dared to venture out in the cold and were rewarded with a cooler full of whites some up to 18 inches.

Bass are also starting to show up with more regularity in the same area as the whites and some of them are keepers.

I got several reports of anglers catching several big walleyes in the same areas as the bass.

I caught several nice crappie up the James just before the recent cold snap but they  haven’t schooled up in their normal winter haunts yet.

Those who dare to venture out this Christmas season will experience some fantastic white bass fishing while others huddled around their fire places will just be “dreaming of a white bass Christmas”.

Good Fishing and Merry Christmas!
